From the East

Well, the holiday season is over and I hope it was wonderful and filled with joy for everyone. I know it was for my family and me. Now that we are entering into a new year it’s time to once again make our New Year’s Resolutions. With that said, I have made my list for the lodge and would like to share it with you.

I want to first focus on fellowship and family. I group these two together because I want to have more events and activities that are open to our friends and family. Let’s face it, our families want our time as well and having events that they can attend. This would really bring us all closer. On the other side, I look forward to meeting your friends, spouse, and kids.

The second thing I want to do is focus on our charitable giving. After all, I like to think that we all joined the lodge to make a difference. That’s why I want to use our Past Masters (and non officers) as much as possible in the upcoming year to help promote charity and good will. We have so much to learn from our Past Masters and brethren and we can always use the extra help and support.

The final resolution I want to mention is Masonic Education. Unity through Masonic Education which is the theme for 2015. We will strive to educate the community at large about freemasonry. With an “open house” or Masonic Information Night, we will have the opportunity to invite the public into the lodge and help them understand who we are and what we do!

As you can see we have a very busy, yet exciting, year planned for the lodge. I hope you will plan to attend as much as is “within the length of your cable tow”.

I want to take a moment to thank everyone who came out for our Annual Installation and a special thanks to all of you who helped put it together and made it a huge success.

Congratulations to Bro. John Evers on being selected to receive the Hiram Award, the highest award a Lodge can bestow upon one of its members – a truly distinguished honor. Arrangements for the presentation will be announced soon! When you see Bro. Evers give him a hearty handshake and congratulate him!

That’s it for now! So until next time I want to wish you all the best this coming year and if you need anything, want to get involved, or just want to enjoy some fellowship please feel free to contact me anytime. The best way to reach me is by phone or text.

Fraternally, Paul Cary, Master

From the West

Greetings from the West. Congratulations to Worshipful Paul Cary for being installed as Master for 2015. We look forward to a great year. As Senior Warden I welcome you to our new Masonic Year. I am excited about the continuance of our programs. Please remember to bring a can or two of food to help us support our community food locker.

I have some mighty big shoes to fill in being appointed Officers Coach for this Lodge. I thank our Inspector, Wor. Bill Miklos for the confidence in me to handle this task. It should be a seamless transition for us. It seems Wor. Gary Macauley is the only coach I have worked under for 7 years. I am familiar with his methods. I have seen him train so many men to be great Ritualists. We look forward to many years of continued help and guidance from Wor. Macauley.

Brethren, we NEED SPECIAL HELP. The Lodge has a wonderful organ. Just sitting there. IT NEEDS TO BE PLAYED. Are you a Brother that can play for us during our Degrees? Or, do you know a Brother that MIGHT play for us? Please let us know!

I look forward with Honor and Pleasure to serve our lodge this next year. See you in Lodge.

Fraternally, John Scofield, P.M., Sr. Warden

Brethren, Ladies, Family and Friends,

I would like to take this time to thank you all for your trust and support in electing me to serve as your Junior Warden during the 2015 Masonic year. I would also like to give a HUGE thank you to everyone that attended the December Stated Meeting dinner. It was a record number of reservations and attendance! I am looking forward to this year and the exciting changes we have begun to make.

One change that I am especially excited to share is that our Stated Meeting dinners will now be catered by Rich Gardner, a fellow brother and owner of Granite Rock Grill in Rocklin. Rich has prepared a fabulous menu for us for the upcoming year.

In making this change, reservations are now absolutely required; without a reservation, there is a good possibility we will not have a dinner for you. Reservations MUST be made no later than Monday, January 12th at 9 p.m. For your convenience you can call, email or register online to reserve your dinner. For those that would like a “standing” reservation or currently have one, please contact Jen Riffe at the number below so that those arrangements can be made as they can’t be done via email or online and are not carrying over from 2014.

In addition to these wonderful changes to the Stated Meeting dinners, the price will increase to $15 beginning this month. In addition to covering the catering expense, this increase will help us to continue to support the Job’s Daughters Bethel 292 who will be serving our guests each month and providing a delicious dessert.

Please see “What’s for Dinner?” for the menu and the contact information to get your reservations in. I look forward to seeing you at dinner and throughout this year.

Fraternally, Chad Riffe, Junior Warden

Brethren, our Annual Installation is fast approaching. Please attend Saturday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. to support Bro. Paul Cary as Master-Elect of the Lodge.

We have experienced a good year at our Lodge with new members joining and advancing. Congratulations to Walter W. Hastings on receiving his First Degree.

Our Annual Turkey Drive was a total success. Thank you to everyone for your generous donations for this wonderful cause. It certainly is a good feeling to be able to help those less fortunate than us at this time of year. Thank you again everyone. And I hope everyone had a very Happy Thanksgiving. We do have a lot to be thankful for.

Watch this Trestleboard for events and news about you and your Lodge!

From the West

Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends! The holiday season is upon us once again. Fun times for all, with gift giving and receiving. I hope that you get what you want this holiday season.

I want to thank all the brethren for entrusting me as the Master-Elect for 2015. I hope to make good use of this year, as many Masters have done before me. The Year sure went by fast! We had lots of degrees and events that made the year great. We plan to continue this in 2015 by having the same and lots more!

Bringing brothers and their families back to lodge is an important goal for me and the 2015 Masonic Year. I would like to make 2015 a year focused on this and Masonic education and our youth. I hope you all will join me in celebrating these focuses for 2015.

Please remember that the Lodge installation is happening this month on Saturday, December 13th at 2 p.m. Also the Annual Crab Feed is on January 10th. Please see the lodge website under events for details. You can also pay for your tickets online too.

In closing, I want to wish you and your families all a very happy holiday season. I hope to see you soon at Lodge. There is a lot going on and it sure would be great to share it with more of our Brothers.

Hall Board

The hall board is looking for a Building Maintenance
Manager, please call Tom Tompkins for more information. One of our lodge members has donated a flag pole and flag for our building. A heart felt thank you for your donation.

We are checking on the possibility of installing a metal patio cover in the rear of the lodge to replace the one we removed because of safety concerns. We will keep you posted on this project. The hall board is looking for a church to rent the lodge building on Sundays, if you know of an organization that may be interested, please let Bob Jackson know.

Fraternally, Tom Tompkins, P.M., President
Greetings from the South. I wish to thank all of those
that prepared and served meals for us during this past year. Thank you for your support.

I would like to thank all of those that contributed to our Annual Turkey and Food Drive. The food bank across the street is so grateful for YOUR contributions. YOU are helping many needy families in the Citrus Heights area Thank You so much for your turkeys or cash contribution. Happy Holidays.

As we move forward into 2015 the exciting news is: We will be having our dinners catered. We are close to making a decision on who to select. Unfortunately my friends WE WILL BE HAVING TO RAISE OUR PRICE. Yes it has been many years that are dinners were just $10.00. But as costs continue to rise so must our prices. Be watching your January Trestleboard for final details on this great opportunity. Reservations for dinner WILL BE A MUST. If you do not make a reservation we may not be able to guarantee you a dinner. So please call or email or text the Junior Warden for your reservation.

As I move, once again, to Senior Warden for 2015, I am excited and looking forward to a great year. Your officers will be busy. Won’t you please come and join us for a degree? We love side liners. Watch your Trestleboard for dates.

See you for Stated Meeting Dinner on Dec 10th. The
Job’s Daughters will be preparing and serving the December Stated Meeting Dinner. See “What’s for Dinner” below for details. Don’t forget to make your reservation for this dinner also.

As Winter approaches we find ourselves busy with ritual work again. Its great to see the lodge active and thriving. I think everyone has been doing a great job in welcoming newcomers to our lodge. The Stated Meeting Dinner and Lodge Breakfast are great tools for getting to know potential members and expanding our own friendships. Lets keep this up and continue to have fun doing it.

This years Annual Communication (Grand Lodge) was a great success! We had plenty of brothers and their families from all over the state and world attend. We had several recommendations and resolutions that were hot topics this year. You can log on to the Grand Lodge’s website to see the results at www.freemason.org or give one of your officers a call and we can fill you in.

November brings us a time of thanks. I would like to
thank my lodge brothers, ladies and families for all the support you give us. I want to extend my best wishes to everyone and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

Please mark your calendar for our annual elections on

Greetings Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends!

Well, the month of October brings us Halloween, once again. I know many of you may have something planned for Halloween, I do. I plan to trick or treat with my kids and dress up in some funny outfit this year. May you all stay safe and have a Happy Halloween, with plenty of candy of course.

We have several degrees planned this month. We will be having a double first degree on October 13, 2014. As always we appreciate your attendance and your continued support!

Don’t forget, the 165th Annual Communication of The Grand Lodge of California is October 10-12 at the Masonic Memorial Temple. I will be there, If you can, we highly recommend you attend.

It is my pleasure to share some important dates in Masonic History, for the month of October. In 1928 the Philalethes Society was organized. In 1937, President Lyndon B. Johnson received his 1st degree in Texas. In 1800, the Grand Lodge of Kentucky was established. In 1794, the Grand Lodge of Vermont was organized. In 1778, the Grand Lodge of Virginia was organized. In 1874, the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma was formed. In 1911, President Franklin D. Roosevelt received his 1st degree.

Here are a few upcoming dates to share with you. The Annual Installation of Officers will be held on Saturday December 13, 2014. The Annual Crab Feed will be on January 10, 2015. Your attendance is greatly appreciated, please mark your calendar.

Let's Play Ball!
Masons4Mitts.org

Brethren,.It has been a wonderful and generous season for helping children.

The Masons4Mitts program has now ended this year’s fundraising efforts. Because of your generosity there will be 951 children receiving their very first baseball glove next spring. Yes, 951 mitts for 951 children. That's 301 more children than last year, that's 543 more than 2 seasons ago, and that's 921 more children than just three seasons ago.

Your generosity has led the way all year long. Sacramento & Foothill Masons set the pace leading all
contenders until the end. The final numbers had the San Jose and San Francisco teams passing us in the last 4 hours of the fundraiser. This was expected as those areas have more Masons and hold very large fundraising events all summer long.

Sacramento & Foothill Masons have exceeded every
desire or expectation for their generosity. Three seasons ago the Sacramento team contributed less that 30 mitts....... this season nearly a thousand mitts..... WOW!

I thank each of you for your support for this worthy
program. We're going to help a lot of kids because of you.

Thank you for your love for children and thank you for being so very generous.

Hall Board

No new projects in the works at the moment for the hall board, however, there are some changes that will occur at the first of the year. Worshipful Jim Poindexter will be stepping down as building manager. Worshipful Poindexter has done an outstanding job keeping our lodge in great shape, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that we members just take for granted. He will be missed. The hall board is actively looking for a new building manager. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be interested, please let either myself or any one of your hall board members

From the East

Brethren, Brother Chuck Oldes has regretfully found it necessary to step down as Junior Warden due to an increasingly heavy workload requiring frequent travel. At our August Stated Meeting, Junior Past Master John Scofield was elected to serve as Junior Warden for the remainder of the current Masonic Year. As a result, and after practice meetings all summer, all officers are just about ready for our Inspector to certify them in advanced stations for next year! Also, the Lodge voted to temporarily suspend our traditional rule that the Junior Past Master remain silent and speak only when spoken to!

Thanks to all who participated in the Masonic Family BBQ Potluck. Larry Gore did a great job at the grill!

Chad and Jennifer Riffe have taken on the task of
planning and coordinating our Fall Festival. This annual event (set for October 25th) is already creating excitement and is likely to raise needed funds for lodge activities.

Again this year, I will be pleased to collect your
donated new and gently-used backpacks and those coats that seem to shrink in the closet. They’ll go to a local charity! Also, our local Food Closet thanks us for your continued generous donations. It will soon be time for Turkey donations again! What a great way to help our local community!

Greetings Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends!

I hope everyone had a great summer! As we enter the month of September the school year starts for some and for us all it brings the beginning of fall and cooler weather.

Here at the lodge your officers have been working hard practicing in advance stations in preparation for year-end qualifications. We have several degrees planned already and look forward to seeing you all.

I was surely surprised when I showed up to the August
Stated Meeting to find that Worshipful Angello was sick. We did however continue on without him and I got to run my first meeting. It was a great meeting! As always we appreciate your attendance and your continued support!

Don’t forget, the 165th Annual Communication of The

Brethren, thank you for your confidence in electing me Junior Warden for the remainder of 2014. I will do my best to uphold this honored position. I want to welcome everyone back from our summer break. We have lots to do for the remainder of the year. Be sure to check out the calendar for upcoming degrees.

At this months Stated Meeting we will be reviewing the Grand Lodge legislation coming up in October. Also coming in October is our annual Fall Festival. Be sure to keep an eye out for more information on that. A fun time will be had by all. So please plan on joining us.

Hall Board

The Harding San Juan Hall board does not have much
going on this summer. Don Bagley, P.M. has decided to step down as president of the hall board after many years of dedicated service. Thank you Worshipful Bagley for your service, your shoes are going to be hard to fill. Tom Tompkins, P.M. has been elected as President until the next election of hall board officers. A special thank you to Jim
Poindexter, P.M. for a great job replacing the rear entry doors. The doors look wonderful and the locks work very well compared to doors that were there.

If you know of any improvements that you feel need to be done to our lodge, just let one of your hall board members know, we will take it under serious consideration. Your recommendations are appreciated.

Brethren, June was an outstanding month. Anthony
Hodges and Michael Nichols (Mike was scheduled at print time) were raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason. John Williamson and Maxford Harry received their 2nd Degree. Also, we initiated three new Masons in a triple First degree for Julius Cadorna, Trevor Runnels-Spieth and Dustin Smith. Congratulations!

Also, the Jobs Daughters had a Wonderful Installation. Sydney Humphries was very gracious as outgoing honored Queen. Congratulations Honored Queen Veronica Allen.

During the “Dark” months of July and August your
officers will be in rehearsal (practice each Monday) to
qualify and begin working in next year’s (Advanced) Stations. Degree conferrals will resume in September!

Watch this Trestleboard for events and news about
you and your Lodge!

I would like to praise our candidates, Candidates
Coaches, Officers, Officers Coaches, Breakfast Crew and Hall Board for the great work that has been done as we have labored hard putting on degrees, and initiating new brethren into the fraternity. Our lodge continues to flourish and confer degrees at an excellent pace.

The months of July and August bring us a time of BBQ's and pool parties. I hope that all of you enjoy your summer. Here at the lodge your officers will be working hard practicing in advance stations in preparation for year-end qualifications. You may have heard this time of the year referred to as "going dark". Going “Dark” means to not have any degrees or dinners during this time. We still continue to have our Breakfasts and Stated Meetings.

Over the next few months we have several brothers studying to give their proficiencies. So be prepared to come join us after summer for degree conferrals. As always we appreciate your attendance and your continued support at all of our events.

Looking forward, the 165th Annual Communication of
The Grand Lodge of California is October 10-12 at the
Masonic Memorial Temple on Nob Hill in San Francisico. It is never too early to start planning. If you can, we highly recommend you attend. Our beloved Masonic Auditorium has been undergoing renovation and redesign to re-open in September as “The Masonic”.

Have a great summer!

Fraternally, Paul Cary, Senior Warden

Hall Board

The Hall Board will be meeting in July mainly to pay bills etc. Other than the back door replacement project and parking lot lighting in progress, there is nothing else going on. The back door replacement should be completed this month, the parking lot lights are still being studied. We will be discussing some ideas about a patio cover after hearing a report from Director Cary but it appears the majority of Directors are not interested in spending a lot of money considering the little use it gets. One thing was brought to my attention, we had three steamers at one time and now there is only one. If they were borrowed I would appreciate they be returned.

Summer is here and the days are only getting hotter. As the Senior Warden it is my duty and privilege to attend the recent Master & Wardens retreat. I gained valuable information to help me as one of the lodges many officers. One of the many things we learned was Solomon's Wheel. This served as a unique tool for all of us, we learned that each lodge faces it's own hardships, yet at the same time we all share very familiar obstacles. Coming together as we did, we learned to give and take from each other clues on how to combat these challenges. I appreciate you sending me to the retreat and thank you all for your continued support.

We have several degrees going on in the month of June. Brothers Anthony Hodges and Michael Nichols will be raised to the Sublime degree of Master Mason. We also have a double second degree happening. This month has already started off amazing, we have three new applicants, which means after the June Stated Meeting we may have a triple
first degree. As always we appreciate your attendance and your continued support.

One of my duties is to promote Masonic education.
Some of you may already know that we have a local Research lodge; Golden Compasses Research Lodge's mandate is to conduct research, hold discussions, gather and preserve Masonic information, maintain a library, supply papers or speakers at the request of lodges, and conduct a program of general service to the Craft in the field of Masonic Education and Information. On June 20th they are holding an
educational event called Masonry & Magic with speaker S. Brent Morris. I will be attending this event and would highly recommend it to you all. Please contact me if you would like more information.

Don't forget to join me and your fellow brethren at the upcoming lodge Picnic on July 19th. See you all there!

At the May 8, 2014 Board of Directors Meeting the
Directors were informed by the Building Maintenance
Manager that the replacement of the back doors and parking lot lighting was still in progress being held up by getting a City Building Permit for the parking lot lights and difficulty in getting a reasonable bid on the door replacements. He told the Board that he was going to purchase the material for the back door replacement and had located a person to do the installing.

He also recommended and it was approved by the
Board to have an electrical contractor install a 220 volt receptacle on the patio side of the south dining room wall. This would be the first step in getting a permit to install new parking lot lights. The replacement of a patio cover was discussed at length resulting in a lack of consensus. I appointed a committee to research some options and report back to the Board at our July Meeting. In the meantime we
will use a pop-up cover when necessary. Thats all for now.

Greetings Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends!

May is upon us and soon it will be summer and time for advance stations. For those of you that hear this all the time and wonder what is advance stations? Well it is the time when your team of lodge officers moves forward one step in the chairs at the lodge. Example: I have the pleasure of practicing as Master of the Lodge, in preparation for next years role.
This station has been occupied by many a great men that have come before me and thus I am truly excited to have an opportunity to practice in this station.

We have two degrees scheduled in May. Bro. Jeff
Anders will be raised to the Sublime degree of Master Mason and Bro. Scott Robinson will be passed to the degree of Fellow Craft. We also have several degree proficiencies. We encourage and look forward to seeing you attend these degrees and showing your continued support.

What is Masonic commitment? To everyone this may
mean something different. To me, our operative brothers this meant constructing cathedrals of older times and King Solomon’s Temple, and much more. As speculative Masons, our work doesn’t involve construction of physical items like those mentioned. It has to do we the self improvement of yourself and the charity to others. The work is equally important, yet the Mason’s of today are just as committed to their speculative work as their ancestors were in days past to the operative work. If we continue to be committed and dedicated, we will have the opportunity to erect our own moral and Masonic edifices. Like the operative Mason’s and their monuments that still stand today, we have the ability to leave a moral legacy that will extend beyond time itself.

The Month of May is Masonic Youth Orders Month! Our youth play a very important role in our future and we should connect, communicate, and commit to them every chance we get. They appreciate our support. One of the many ways you can show that support is by attending one of the many meetings our Job's Daughters Bethel 292 has throughout each month.

The month of May has had many Masonic History events, here are a few. President William McKinley received his 1st degree in 1865. President Andrew Johnson received his 1st degree in 1851. Rudyard Kipling received his 2nd degree in 1886. In 1843 a national Masonic Congress was begun in Baltimore in a attempt to establish a uniform ritual for the United States Grand Lodges. The George Washington Masonic National Memorial was dedicated in 1932. President Harry S Truman received his 50 year Masonic award in 1959. Sir Winston Churchill received his 1st degree in 1901. The Grand lodge of West Virginia was established in 1865.

The Hall Board Directors held their regular business
meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday March 13, 2014. The Capital Improvement Committee Chairman Bob Jackson presented a report of Short and Long term recommendations. The report was very well thought out and sets some ambitious and thoughtful goals. Of the short term recommendations to be completed in 2014, the Board authorized Management to proceed with costs to improve the south side parking lot
lighting and replace the decaying double doors on the east side of the building. They also approved the demolition of the existing patio cover for safety reasons as it is starting to fall apart from decay. The replacement as to what form will be discussed and considered at a later date.

I have not had any response to my request for members interested on being a part of the Hall Board. Our present secretary will be leaving the Board in December and we need a member with the ability to take over maintaining the books, paying the bills, collecting the rent, making required written reports to the Lodge, complete and submit Federal and State Information Returns in order to keep our tax exempt status and other miscellaneous duties including taking meeting minutes. Our Board elections are at the November Stated Meeting so time is of the essence.

Greetings Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends!

We elected J.W. to receive the degrees of masonry last month, Mr. W. will receive the first degree in March. Several Brothers have been working extremely hard to take their proficiencies. Bro. S.R. is ready to give his 1st degree proficiency, and Bro. B.G. has given his 2nd degree proficiency. Bro. S.F. is ready to give his 3rd degree proficiency.

With so many new brothers coming into the lodge and
so many progressing through the degrees of masonry; it is important that we continue to support them with our attendance at the degree conferrals.

Masonic Participation is important; There are a variety of ways to serve and to benefit, a period of duty as a Steward, waiting on the brothers who have previously waited on you, learning to participate as a sideliner in the degree work until you are comfortable to help in the work; supporting the Lodge simply by regular attendance at Stated and Special Meetings, calling on a brother who is ill, attending a brothers funeral; bringing wives, families and friends to social functions, taking up the study of Masonic research, and, of most special importance, partaking of all
the good fellowship which is available to you through our Lodge.

If you would like to learn how to participate, or help
in anyway; please contact one of the officers and let them know you are interested.

Please check out our great new website:

Dear Brethren,

The instructions I sent to you regarding the implementation of Resolution 12-18 have raised a number of questions. I am reviewing these and will address them in the next several weeks. However, there is one clarification I would like to make now as
it might effect your current trestleboard publication.

A lodge may publish a trestleboard by mail or email that includes a Mason's personally identified information without obtaining his written permission so long as the trestleboard is sent only to Masons and members of the Masonic family. If the trestleboard will be published on a website, the access to which

is not limited to Masons and members of the Masonic family, or if the trestleboard will be sent to someone who is not a Mason or member of the Masonic family, then the trestleboard may not include a Mason's personally identified information without first obtaining his written permission.

I hope this clarification is helpful to you as you plan your February communications.

Sincerely and fraternally,

John L. Cooper, III, Grand Master

For the Month of February for the Hall Board it was
just about maintaing the "Status Quo" for the benefit of our renters. We look forward to our March meeting when we will be studying what can be done this year to improve and maintain the facility. You will be kept informed as we move along. The Building Maintenance Manager will be asking for some volunteers in March to work in the yard weeding,
trimming trees and generally improving the looks of the outside area.

On another subject, the Hall Board consists of nine
Directors elected from Harding San Juan Lodge
membership. We are short one Director at this time and due to a conflict with Board Meeting dates another Director will be leaving the Board. Being a Director requires someone that is truly interested in helping direct the future of our facility. We have in our hands a facility approaching two million dollars in value and without proper management would decrease in value and become an eyesore in the
community. I am asking any member of the Lodge that would be willing to step forward and commit themselves to attend the Board Meetings, take on special projects and serve as an officer in the future contact me and discuss the possibility of standing for election to the Board.

We already have another candidate/applicant for degrees that will be balloted on at the February Stated meeting. Several Brothers are still working hard on getting ready to take their proficiencies. So get ready for an exciting year of degree conferrals.

I want to stress how important it is to attend our degrees. The impression the candidate receives relies
heavily on the quality of the degree work performed by the officer line, as well as, the number of brothers we have supporting the candidates introduction and progress through our ancient fraternity. We all took a pledge to support this wonderful lodge and fraternity and I hope that each of you can find some time in your busy schedule to devote to this task.

Fraternally, Paul Cary, Senior Warden

From the West

Greetings Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends!

Thank you for having the confidence in me by electing me as your Senior Warden for the ensuing Masonic year. I will do everything in my power to assist the Worshipful Master in his duties and perform the duties of my office and hopefully much more.

Lets welcome Bro. Michael L. Nichols, Bro. James L. Morris and Bro. Scott M. Robinson to the fraternity! They were initiated an Entered Apprentice Mason in December 2013. What a great way to start a new Masonic year!

Year 2014 has just started and is looking like a busy schedule ahead. We have a total of 5 candidates/applicants for degrees. Some of them are waiting to be balloted on, others have gone through the first step of the Masonic journey, the Entered Apprentice degree. We have several Brothers that are working hard on getting ready to take their proficiencies. Let us continue to keep ourselves dedicated to the teachings of Masonry and be role models for our new candidates to be better men.

The Grand Lodge of the State of California has recently rolled out a new feature on the Grand Lodges website, "The Candidate Learning Center". It is open to any Mason in Good Standing, from the youngest Entered Apprentice Mason in the Northeast corner to the Worshipful Master in the East. This is a valuable resource for coaches, but it is something that we can all learn from and use.  Please log in and check it out.

Also we have a great new website www.hardingsanjuan.com. Please take a look and enjoy! We have many features on the website, from buying your next stated meeting dinner to watching videos and more.

Degree proficiencies are so important, regrettably, not all Mater Masons take the time to learn the Third Degree Proficiency because it is not required to enjoy the benefits and privileges of the lodge and fraternity. It is required, of course to qualify as Senior Deacon. Too often, unless one is contemplating ascension to the Master’s chair, the Third Degree proficiency is an untapped resource of knowledge reinforcement. As the Senior Warden, I am charged with the duty of governing the education and learning of the candidates during their progress in the degree work. I would ask the brethren to regard the Third Degree proficiency as a duty and not just an option. Each proficiency bears purpose, which includes reinforcement of the candidate’s understanding of the principles to which he has committed himself. As Master Masons we should ask ourselves what can we do to reinforce these important lessons.

I look forward to an exciting year ahead. We have many things in the planning and we can’t wait to share them with you all.

Our food closet is always in need of additional donations. Please remember to bring items every time you visit the lodge. This is such a great program that we have going here, that it should be shared with your friends and family. We take donations from everyone!

Fraternally, Paul Cary, Senior Warden

Hall Board

Well, 2013 is behind us and a new year has begun.
Besides keeping the lights on the new 2014 Hall Board
Directors will come up with some ideas to improve the
Lodge building. However, they need input from the
members of the Lodge as to ways to make our building more suitable. If any members have concerns, please make them known to the Directors. The improvement of our external lighting is still on the agenda. The biggest issue is the cost to put in lighting that would enhance the aesthetics of the parking lot area. We may have to go piecemeal and spread the improvement over several years.

In reflection, I want to thank the Lodge members that
volunteered in 2013 to get things done and hold down the cost of maintaining the property. This is the reason we ended up on December 31 in the Black. With your continuing help we hope to find a Sunday renter. I am sure there is a small church somewhere in our area that, if they knew of our facility, would like to join us.

Fraternally, Don Bagley, P.M., President

Funerals

You might not know that the California Masonic Code
Section 804.855 says: “It is the duty of every member to attend the funeral of a deceased member of his Lodge or any other Master Mason residing within the vicinity of his Lodge at the time of death, if he can do so without great inconvenience.”

When a Masonic Funeral or Memorial Service is requested, we will send you an email or a recorded telephone message.

Even if you did not know the departed Brother, a
respectable attendance of Masonic Brothers really means a lot to the deceased member’s family. This is also an opportunity to wear your Masonic Apron in public and to show that Masons care. Please help us pay proper respect.

Fraternally, Gary Macauley, PM, Funeral Master
