September 2013 Trestleboard

9/1/2013

From the East

Brethren and Ladies, welcome back from our summer hiatus. I hope everyone had a most relaxing and enjoyable time off. Your officers were busy thru July and August. They are doing their work in advanced stations as we prepare to qualify for next year.

We will be starting September off with our Stated Meeting on Wednesday Sept. 11th. Won’t you please plan on joining us. We have a guest from Christmas Promise joining us to talk with us about their programs. Remember to call in your dinner reservation to our Junior Warden, Paul Cary.

Also on September’s calendar is a First Degree on Monday Sept. 16th for Mr. James C. Evans III. The degree starts promptly at 7 p.m. Then on Monday Sept. 30th we will raise Brother Dave Thomas to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason. Please join us for that degree, remember doors close at 7 p.m. promptly.

Also please join us for breakfast on Saturday Sept. 28th. We will serve from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

The Masons for Mitts program winds up on Sept 6th. If you have not yet made your donation please call Worshipful Jim Watt to make that donation. Wor. Watt has spearheaded this program for the last couple of years, and boy has it taken off. Good Job Wor Jim. Right now Northern California leads with the most donations. Awesome!

Watch this Trestleboard for events and news about you and your Lodge!

Fraternally, John Scofield, Master

From the West

As this summer winds down, I would like to thank those of you that contributed to the local food bank and winter coat drive. I would also like to thank the officers coaches for taking the time during the dark months to help upcoming officers in their advance stations

Fraternally, Tom Angello, Senior Warden

Hall Board

The Hall Board has been on vacation so they have not taken any action recently. However, at the July meeting, they authorized hiring a painting contractor to paint the outside of the building. Three bids were sought and the low bid has been awarded. The work should be completed before the end of summer. After the paint job is completed we will be asking for a volunteer work crew to spruce up the yard areas by adding some new shrubs and general clean up of the entire yard. This will take several work days as it is too much to accomplish in one day. The next meeting of the board will be Wednesday September 4, 2013.

Fraternally, Don Bagley, P.M., President

Mason 4 Mitts

Masons - Baseball - Kids - The Perfect Combination Do you remember your first baseball glove?

Once again, Northern California lodges are teaming up with the Giants Community Fund to provide baseball mitts for more than 20,000 at-risk youth in the Junior Giants program. With 45% of Junior Giants participants not owning a baseball glove, California Masons can make a difference!

Teams of lodges in six areas are competing to give the most mitts. Support your team at Masons4Mitts.org!

Christmas Promise

Christmas Promise is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that has been providing a Christmas for needy children in the Sacramento area since 1981 (230 - 250 families per year). Letters to Santa/requests are referred to us without the family’s knowledge. In turn we provide a Christmas for the entire family (token gifts for adult members) that includes warm clothing, shoes, sleeping bags, handmade blankets for children five and under, books, backpacks filled with school supplies, games, stuffed animals, toys, toiletry items for teenagers, and bikes (if requested). All items are new, individually wrapped and then delivered by approximately 60 Santa's on Christmas Eve. To protect the parents’ dignity and the magic of Christmas, the organization and Santa's remain anonymous and families are helped on a one-time basis.

Fraternally, Paul Cary, Junior Warden

Blood Bank

It only takes a little time and will save someone’s life. For a premature baby it only takes a teaspoon of blood. We have six dedicated individuals who have donated blood in the first half of the year. They are: Don Bagley, William Haley, Shelby Henneberger, Bob Jackson, Creg MacFarlane and Lisa MacFarlane. Bob Jackson leads the year with 10 donations for the year. With the amount of members our lodge has we should have a lot more donors.

Our account number is 7445-Harding San Juan Lodge #579. Your participation insures that when it is needed the necessary blood will be there.

Fraternally, Richard Dunn P.M., Chairman
