Wow, what a whirl wind of activities your lodge has going on right now! We finished off December with our Annual Installation of Officers. Congratulations to all the 2018 Officers, and thank you to our brand new Past Master Brian Evers for a successful 2017.

But the end of one year signals the beginning of a new, and we are starting the New Year off fast on New Year’s Day with Black Eyed Peas and Corn Bread for lunch, to help soak up your celebrations. All you can eat for just $5.00, served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lodge.

We quickly move to our Annual Crab Feed on Saturday January 13th. The Silent Auction this year, benefits the California Masonic Homes. To donate to this great charitable cause, please contact brother Skip Hastings and his wife Judi at (916) 864-4302 or JStiles@stilesintravel.com with your donation items for the auction. In case you didn’t know, Harding San Juan Lodge has a couple of Brothers and Belles currently residing in Union City. And according to them, it is a wonderful place to live. Please join us for the Crab Feed and help us support the Homes.

And Finally, I am looking forward to our Annual Sweetheart Luncheon on Saturday February 10th. This year we will have a guest from the Masonic Outreach Services (MOS) to highlight some of their new and exciting resources available to all Masons and their families. With all of these great events going on this year, please make a point to join us for Friendship and Brotherly Love!

Greetings From the West. Thank you Brethren for your confidence in electing me as Senior Warden. Well, it looks like it is going to be another busy year. Our new Master has a lot of programs coming up. From our Annual Crab Feed in January to our Sweetheart Luncheon in February. I hope to see each and every one of you at these events. We will have our first Rusty Trowel event on a Monday in February. Date to be determined. Stand by for that information. Also at our February Stated Meeting Wor. Michael Robertson will be awarded the Hiram Award. The highest distinction that can be awarded to a Mason. We are hoping our Past Masters will do a 3rd Degree sometime this year. You won't want to miss this event. Our Lodge picnic will be in July and I hear our Fall Festival is back on the calendar for this year also. Your 2018 officers have been practicing and are ready for Degrees.

​On another note. Your Lodge officers are striving to be the best we can be. When we interview a potential member we are considering quality and not quantity. We need men that are looking for a Fraternity that they "can get involved in". So remember when you talk Masonry to a man talk about the commitment, the help we need to further our Fraternity and helping out at the Lodge. The rewards are so fulfilling when one applies himself to the task.

Greetings from the West, Brethren! Autumn has arrived, and with it the tasks that the changing year brings. Leaves are being raked, gutters are getting cleaned and likewise around the lodge, preparations are being made for the coming Masonic Year.

As I finish up next year’s calendar and budget, I would like to “open up the floor” for ideas that I may not have thought of. If there any events or programs you think worthy of the lodge’s support, please let me know and we’ll see if it can be accommodated.

The October Stated Meeting Dinner had a very small turnout, but it was a great meal! The German themed dinner was delicious and filling. I understand other Masonic organizations also had an Oktoberfest themed meal, which may account for the low attendance. November is HSJ Lodge Election month, and both the meeting and dinner are highly attended, so please get your reservations to me early.

November 7th will be our last Rusty Trowel and BBQ for 2016. The Rusty Trowel Sessions can provide a vast amount of Masonic knowledge, which resides in the minds of our Past Masters, so if you are in need of some “Light”, this is your chance to get some. The BBQ is also a big hit and only $5.00, so an accurate count is necessary. Please RSVP to me if you are planning to eat.

Where does the time go? I hope this Trestleboard finds you well and preparing for the holiday season with your loved ones. As I write this article, I am humbled and awed that my year as Master of the Lodge is coming to a close. It has truly been a rewarding experience and it has been my privilege to serve the lodge for the last five years.

This year we have tried some different things with success. We have catered dinners at the lodge Stated Meetings and I think this has helped to encourage higher attendance and with that higher attendance came a renewed sense of fraternal relations amongst the brethren.

With the lodge’s support we have accomplished what we had set out to do. Thank you everyone for such a great year and lets continue that support into the new year and many more masonic years thereafter.

Please come out to our Annual Installation of Officers Sat. Dec. 12th at 2 p.m. to support our officers advancement and watch as I pass the gavel to Master-Elect Bro. Chad Riffe. I have no doubt that the lodge will have a great and prosperous year as he sits in the East. Congratulations my Brothers!

My profound and heartfelt thanks to my officers, our pillar supports and their ladies this year for their support and hard work. There are many things that go into the making of lodge nights that most brothers never see and it is their efforts behind the scenes, in many cases, that make all the difference.

Brethren, Ladies, Family and Friends: I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our annual Turkey and Food Drive. The food bank is very grateful for all your contributions; you helped so many needy Citrus Heights families. THANK YOU!

Having our dinners catered by Granite Rock Grill was a great success in 2015, and the program is being continued in 2016. The donation will remain at $15 and will again be payable by cash, check or PayPal through the lodge website. Reservations are required for an accurate headcount, so please check in (contact info below).

As I move to new responsibilities as Senior Warden in 2016, please welcome Jeffrey Robertson, who will be assuming the duties of Junior Warden. I am certain he will serve his new position admirably.

November is once again upon us. This month is the beginning of the transition from the old to the new in our officers Masonic journey through the line to the Oriental Chair in the East. We start that journey with the Annual Election of Officers at the November Stated Meeting and proceed to the Installation of Officers on December 12th.
​
The month of November brings us so many wonderful holidays that are cemented into our Great Country. We start with the celebration of beloved Veterans. Thank you to all the Veterans and may the Great Architect of The Universe bless you all! We also give many thanks to the things we cherish in our daily lives on Thanksgiving!

​This last month your Pillar Officers visited the Annual Communication at Grand Lodge. We met so many great Masons from all of this great State of ours and the World. We also learned so many things that we will have the pleasure to share with the entire lodge.

We have had so many wonderful opportunities to celebrate our Golden Veterans this last year and we have another this month. We appreciate your support at every one of our amazing Stated Meetings!

​Frozen Turkeys Needed! November is upon us and our biggest project of the year is here, our food and turkey drive for the Sunrise Food Locker. During the month of September we had a great Dinner and an amazing program. I would like to thank Past Grand Master, Most Worshipful John L. Cooper III for being our speaker at last month’s Constitutional Observance. It was an honor to hear him speak and to be enlightened by the wealth of information he conveyed.

As we enter the fourth quarter we can look back at the year and see that we have accomplished so much. The lodge is alive and thriving! We have had several initiations and affiliations this year. Our dinners have been a huge success and our programs have been heavily attended. This is thanks to the brethren and ladies of the lodge, your continued support of our events has been greatly appreciated. Also, this would have never have happened without the great support team that I have had the pleasure to work with this year. Thank you everyone for your support!

This month is exciting as I before mentioned. Your officers will be making the final push to get qualified for advancement and elections, which are just around the corner, in November. I have seen so much growth from our officers over the last five years and I am so proud of all their accomplishments. I only wish them the best and know they will continue on with great success.

Grand Lodge's Annual Communication is here again and we will be keeping you informed of the legislation and results. This years Communication is before our stated meeting, which will give us the opportunity to report the results to you sooner, rather than waiting until the November stated meeting, as we have done in recent years.

I am thrilled to be attending this year’s Fall Festival as Master of the lodge. It is going to be the best yet! Please plan to attend and enjoy the festivities.

Hall Board

The fire suppression hood over the kitchen stove is completed. All of the fire department requests have been done. Thank you Worshipful Jim Poindexter for all of your hard work in seeing that these tasks were handled. American River Lodge No. 795 will start meeting at the San Juan Masonic Center on Fridays in October, their first Stated Meeting is October 2nd.

We are still looking for a church to rent our building on Sundays, we have had a church that has been back three times to check out our facility, let’s hope this turns into something positive. There are no more large projects on the drawing board at this time for our building.

On October 10, 2015, please support Job’s Daughters Bethel 292 and fill your freezer with delicious homemade tamales. Tamales are large, pre-cooked and easy to re-heat. The cost is $10 for a half dozen (6).. Choice of fillings. Call Carol Burns at or Dixie Van Allen.

September is here already and summer vacation has come to an end. As the fall season begins and cooler weather approaches, the lodge emerges from hibernation. September is Constitutional Observance month! This month brings us the holidays of Labor day and Patriot day.

Your officers have been working diligently this summer to qualify for advancement. This month they will be back at work and ready to shine as always.

Congratulations to Robert D. Henning who has accepted an appointment to serve as Marshal for the remainder of this year!

I am pleased to announce that Past Grand Master, Most Worshipful John L. Cooper III will be our speaker this month for Constitutional Observance. I hope you will be able to attend this wonderful opportunity to hear him speak. He will give a short talk on the Constitutional Convention of 1787 called "Miracle at Philadelphia." I look forward to seeing you there.

Don’t forget, the 166th Annual Communication of The Grand Lodge of California is October 9th - 11th at the Masonic Memorial Temple in San Francisco. I will be there. If you can, I highly recommend you attend.

Summer vacation is here and July marks the beginning of the second half of the Masonic year. During the month of July we celebrate Independence Day. This is one of my favorite holidays, which is full of Masonic history. I will be out enjoying all the festivities, maybe even the Folsom Rodeo. August is full of hot nights and days, so stay cool out there. I know I will try my best to keep cool in my inflatable pool in my backyard.

During these two months your officers will be working
hard in advance stations. All this hard work is so they can qualify and then be elected or appointed in November. This will then be followed by installation in December. The rest of the year will go by fast and before I know it I will be sitting on the sidelines polishing my PM jewel, while trying to stay quiet.

My year as Master of the lodge we have lost several
brothers, all of them will be missed. During the month of June we lost one of the lodge officers. Our dear Secretary Wor. Robert J. Petterson, P.M. passed on to the Great Lodge above on June 3, 2015. He was a pillar of our lodge and kept the cogs of this vast machine of Masonry running smooth as could be. Wor. Bob was a friend and brother to all. He was always there to answer your questions, whether it was at home late at night or every Wednesday morning.

When I first decided to join Freemasonry, I started by
first exploring all local lodges online. I eventually found our lodges website and the first picture I saw was of Wor. Bob, with a warm welcoming smile inviting me in. I decided at that moment I would go to that lodge and join. I went the next day and had no idea what to expect, when I knocked several times on the door Wor. Bob answered the door with the same smile, he eventually became my top line signer and here I am as Master of the lodge. All thanks to the warm smile that invited me in and made me feel at home. Bob, my friend, my brother you will be deeply missed.

At the June Stated Meeting I appointed Bro. Travis
Beller as Assistant Secretary, until we can hold elections in November for the office of Secretary.

Wor. John Scofield will be hosting a 3rd degree
proficiency class during the months of July & August. If your interested in polishing up on your proficiency in the hopes of eventually giving it at the lodge please contact Wor. Scofield for additional details or just show up at the scheduled times in the Trestleboard calendar.

With things moving so fast with the advancement of
the officers, we are looking for brothers that have the commitment and drive to pursue the Oriental Chair. This is a great honor to go where all Past Masters have gone before. If you feel you have what it takes to commit to the officers line, then reach out to me and let it be known.

We have a few exciting events coming up during the
next few months at Grand Lodge. First, the Grand Lodge of California will hold its 166th Annual Communication this year. Don't miss the chance to join me October 9-11 at the California Masonic Memorial Temple where we will reconnect with brethren from throughout California, celebrate this year's many accomplishments, and draft the course for our new fraternal year.

Second, the World Conference of Regular Masonic
Grand Lodges is held on a different continent in a different part of the world every 18 months. This November 18-21, fraternal leaders from throughout the world will convene in North America for the first time in seven years, at the California Masonic Memorial Temple in San Francisco. I will be at both of these events so I hope to see you there!

The patio cover project is now complete and the permit is approved. Jim Poindexter (Maintenance Manager) has completed all the repairs/changes the fire department has recommended and should be signed off by the time this is published. We are still waiting to start the fire suppression system, about June 29th will be the start date and it should take about a month to complete, so the kitchen will be off limits during this time. We did have a church interested in renting on Sunday’s but haven’t heard back yet. We are also considering different ways to conserve our use of water around the property, so if you have any suggestions that may help let us know. Please reset the main meeting room when you are done with your meetings, we have a diagram on the wall for you to follow, when moving or removing chairs please put them back where they were.

Summer is here! This month brings us a few events to
enjoy. A few of those events are the annual Roll Call
Ceremony where we will pay a final tribute to those brothers who have passed into the celestial lodge above.

Our annual Masonic Family Potluck Picnic will be
held on June 20th at the Lodge and will be fun for all ages. We also honor our fathers and grandfathers on Fathers Day.

Summer also brings outdoor activities; family
vacations and time to just enjoy the nice warm days. It also means we are approaching our “Dark” months for July and August. Although we will not confer degrees or have stated meeting dinners during months we are “Dark,” we still hold Stated Meetings.

Congratulations to our officers who made the jump to
their new stations half way through the year and for being installed at our May stated meeting.

Grand Master Russ Charvonia has proclaimed June
2015 to be Masonic Homes Month. During this month our brothers and their widows should be made aware of the resources available to them, including the toll-free support number 888-466-3642. Your Hall Board and particularly Worshipful Jim
Poindexter have been very busy. As you probably know, the Lodge had a visit from the fire marshal. There were a few items that needed to be added, corrected and/or altered to insure that our building would pass the fire marshal's inspection and to become compliant with current fire codes. You will notice that Worshipful Poindexter has added quick
release door locks to a few of the doors, there are numerous new signs about our lodge building and an outside lockbox for the fire department. The only item left to complete is the fire suppression system over the stove. The contractor informed us that the fire suppression system would take a month to install. Brother Bob Jackson is juggling the Lodge calendar to accommodate the contractor and the installation will probably be completed sometime this summer.

Also, our ice machine decided it was time to expire. Our new ice machine is now up and running.

Notice: In February, the Lodge voted to request a dispensation to keep our November meeting on the 11th, rather than have it on the By-laws mandated move to the 18th. The Inspector approved the dispensation on March 15, and gave us a copy on April 8. The dispensation says: .... the Lodge is required to give notice of this change in the next regular Trestleboard .....So here it is.

May is here and we have almost finished half of the year. We can look back at the beginning of this year and be truly excited with what we have accomplished.

May also brings us Memorial Day. Please remember those brave men and women that have fought and died for our Great Country. May we never forget them and their sacrifice.

Let us not forget to think of our Mothers this month
and wish them the best Mother's Day they can possibly have. May our Mothers who have passed be remembered always.

April was a very busy month. After qualifying for their
advanced stations at the end of April we are ready for a special mid-year election and installation of Junior and Senior Wardens and the rest of the line officers who will “step up”. After this month we will be practicing for next year qualification and regular advancement again. 

Several officers attended the Master and Warden retreat in April. We look forward to applying what we learned.

With the advancement of the officers, we are looking
for brothers that have the commitment and drive to pursue the Oriental Chair. This is a great honor to go where all Past Masters have gone before. If you have the time and energy to commit to the officers line, please let me know!

This month we celebrate our Youth Orders at the lodge. Please join your fellow brethren and me at the May stated meeting. We will have a youth activity this month. Let’s show our support and fill the sidelines with as many as we can. Please don't forget to support our Youth throughout the year by attending their functions.

May was proclaimed Champion Civility Month by
Grand Master Russ Charvonia. You can find out more information on this at the Grand Lodge website and the Civility Toolbox website at www.civilitycenter.org.

Our new patio cover should be completed by the time
you read this article. There were a few hiccups but it was well worth the wait. Please come by the lodge and check out your new patio cover.

The lodge had an inspection from the fire Marshall and there were a few items that we needed to correct and/or update. Our Building Maintenance Manager, Wor. Jim Poindexter has done a great job in fixing the items the fire marshal suggested we fix. There are some new door handles installed on many of our doors and look for a new fire suppression system to be installed over the stove in the kitchen. Also you will notice that for the time being the lock has been removed from the gate near the dumpster.

Your hall board is always looking for ways to improve
our facility. Please, if you have any suggestions, let one of your hall board members know.

Your hall board is still looking for a church to rent our building on Sundays. Please keep your ears open to any prospects. Have a great month of May.

Once more we hear the feet of the Easter bunny steadily approaching. Spring is finally here! Clean out those closets and enjoy the delightful weather and fresh flowers everywhere!

March was a very busy month. We have had several initiations into the fraternity, and one raising to Master Mason. It was a great month! We also have few more applications to still investigate. In the middle of all our degree conferrals, we hosted a wonderful Sweethearts Luncheon.

This month we celebrate our public schools at the lodge. Please join your fellow brethren and me at the April stated meeting. We have some students from the local schools, that will present their essays to the lodge. Let’s show our support and fill the sidelines with as many as we can.

Your officers are currently practicing to advance to the next station while getting certified for a mid-year election in May. Wor. John Scofield will be resigning at the April stated meeting to pursue a full-time officers coach position in the lodge. This leaves a gap for advancement. All the officers, except me, will advance one station to the east.

With the advancement of the officers, we are looking for brothers that have the commitment and drive to pursue the Oriental Chair. This is a great honor to go where all Past Masters have gone before. If you feel you have what it takes to commit to the officers line, then reach out to me and let it be known.

Please note the following: The month of May will be our Youth Observance Month. Show your support by attending our May Stated Meeting and any youth events. Our 5th Annual Lodge Picnic & BBQ is fast approaching. It will be at the lodge on June 20th.

Brethren, our Lodge Leadership Committee reported at our February Stated Meeting that dues and fees increases are now needed. A resolution to increase dues for all members and application fees for new members was introduced for discussion and voting at the March Stated Meeting. Spring is upon us once again. It's time for St. Patrick's day and of course Spring cleaning. Remember to look in your food pantry and ask your family, friends and neighbors to do the same, and donate your canned goods or dry goods to the local food bank by bringing them into the lodge.

I would like to thank everyone for the outstanding attendance we've had at the Lodge, particularly for the stated meeting dinners. I feel the dinners are a great success and everyone seems to enjoy themselves.

We are looking forward to a very busy month here at the lodge. With three new applicants and if elected, we will have four candidates for March! We should look forward to a lot of raising in the near future. Ladies please join us after the March stated meeting dinner and program for some fun games.

One of the main goals of Freemasonry is to create “a sacred band or society of friends and brothers”. I think we are doing ourselves proud in meeting that objective. Freemasonry is so much more than just ritual. It is about creating a selfless individual who strives to ask himself, What can I do to help? How can I make this better for others? How can I serve?

It is important to attend the March Stated Meeting so that your voice can be heard. Please listen to all discussions and weigh all sides to make the best decision for the lodge.

Thank you all for such an amazing turnout at the February stated meeting dinner…67 served! Rich Gardener of Granite Rock Grill continues to do an amazing job on the catering! Thank you to Pat Gore for providing the scrumptious dessert and to the Job’s Daughters and Carol Burns for serving and Worshipful Tom Tompkins for helping them with cleaning up after our meal.

Remember, Reservations ARE Required! Please see below for your registering options…last month was almost a full house and we were very close to turning folks away!

The Sweetheart Luncheon will be held on Saturday, March 21st. Social hour begins at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. A few of the Masons & their wives will be serving and our menu will be a nice salad to start followed with a scrumptious quiche, tasty sandwich, seasonal fruit and a delicious dessert. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served during social hour and Dick MacFarlane will be providing our musical entertainment for the luncheon. Our Harding San Juan Belles will be our guests and for all others the admission is $15 at the door. Reservations are required so please call Jen Riffe to RSVP and also let her know if you can assist in escorting one of our Belles. Jen will have a list of those Belles who wish to attend and need transportation.

The shortest month of the year is upon us. The month of February brings us many Presidents birthdays and the wonderful holiday of Valentines day. Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan were all born during February. Let us not forget our loved ones during this month. Keep them close and when ever you have the chance tell them you love them. 

We had some great fellowship at the Crab Feed, it was a huge success! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped put it together and thank you to all those who came out and enjoyed it.

Ladies let us entertain you! So please join us after the February stated meeting dinner and program for some fun games. We have some great things going on, so come on down and check it out!

I would like to see more of our brethren get involved at the lodge, and one way to do that is the investigative committee. If you have any interest in participating let me know. If you are assigned to an investigating committee, please discharge your duty in a timely manner. Give your prospective brother a call and make arrangements to meet him at his home, preferably when his family will be around. Please take the time to try to get a feel for him to see if he would be a good fit for our Lodge. Encourage him (and his family) to ask questions, to also make sure that our Lodge would be a good fit for him.

Encouraging our prospective members and newly initiated brothers to attend lodge functions, is a key role we must all play. I would like to see our brothers paired with a newer member and become a mentor. This is in addition to the assignment of a coach. The Mentoring Program consists of assigning a well educated Brother to a Candidate, to act as his mentor, educator, and companion for a period of up to one year, thereby, creating an active, educated, and working Brother. If your interested in becoming a mentor for this program please let me know.

Here is a look forward at our upcoming calendar. February 28th will be our monthly lodge breakfast. March 21st we will be having our annual Sweethearts program. June 20th will be our annual lodge picnic.

Greetings from the West. Brethren our food locker donations have slowed down. This is an ongoing project for the entire year. Please we need your help. Your donations go to the Sunrise food locker across the street. This locker helps those less fortunate in the Citrus Heights Area. Won’t you please help us?

We have some degrees planned for this month. On Feb 2nd won’t you join us as we raise Brother Julius Cadorna to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason? Then on February 16th we will Pass Brother John Senuca to the Fellowcraft Degree and looking forward to Monday March 2nd we will initiate Brother Darrell Redding’s grandson (Brandon) to the Craft. This will make 3 Generations of Redding’s in our Lodge. Please mark your calendar and join us for these degrees.

In this Month of Masonic History on Feb. 7th 1981 the Grand Lodge of Alaska was organized. On Feb. 9th Harry S. Truman received his 1st degree, On Feb 11th in 1988 a group of Masonic Leaders met with President Ronald Reagan. The Grand Master of Wash. D.C. presented him with a certificate and the Scottish Rite and Shrine Bodies made him an Honorary member of those bodies. On Feb. 11th 1909 U.S. President William Howard Taft received his 1st Degree, Feb. 18th in 1811 The Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia in Wash. D.C. was formed. On Feb 22nd in 1887 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle received his 2nd degree and on Feb 23rd in 1853 the Grand Lodge of Minnesota was formed.

Brethren, Ladies, Family and Friends: Thank you all for such a fabulous turnout at the January stated meeting dinner. I am so happy to say that we had 54 dinner reservations for our first catered meal! Rich Gardener of Granite Rock Grill did an amazing job on the food and we are excited for February’s dinner! The Sweetheart Dinner will be held on March 21st this year so please mark your calendars and be on the lookout in the March Trestleboard for all of the details.

Hall Board

To start off the New Year correctly, the lodge is getting a new patio cover in February, we were supposed to get the patio cover in January but the rain put our installer behind. So when you come to the lodge breakfast on February 28th the cover should be completed. Mark your calendars to come and see the new patio cover February 28th and while you are admiring the new patio cover you might as well have some breakfast.

The hall board is looking for a church to rent our beautiful facility on Sundays, if you know of a church or know someone who may know of a church, or even if you know someone who may know someone who may know of a church have them call our rental manager Brother Robert (Bob) Jackson.

I hope everyone has a great February and remember your main squeeze on Valentine ’s Day February 14th.
