From the West

Greetings Brethren, Ladies, Family & Friends!

Well, the month of October brings us Halloween, once again. I know many of you may have something planned for Halloween, I do. I plan to trick or treat with my kids and dress up in some funny outfit this year. May you all stay safe and have a Happy Halloween, with plenty of candy of course.

We have several degrees planned this month. We will be having a double first degree on October 13, 2014. As always we appreciate your attendance and your continued support!

Don’t forget, the 165th Annual Communication of The Grand Lodge of California is October 10-12 at the Masonic Memorial Temple. I will be there, If you can, we highly recommend you attend.

It is my pleasure to share some important dates in Masonic History, for the month of October. In 1928 the Philalethes Society was organized. In 1937, President Lyndon B. Johnson received his 1st degree in Texas. In 1800, the Grand Lodge of Kentucky was established. In 1794, the Grand Lodge of Vermont was organized. In 1778, the Grand Lodge of Virginia was organized. In 1874, the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma was formed. In 1911, President Franklin D. Roosevelt received his 1st degree.

Here are a few upcoming dates to share with you. The Annual Installation of Officers will be held on Saturday December 13, 2014. The Annual Crab Feed will be on January 10, 2015. Your attendance is greatly appreciated, please mark your calendar.

Fraternally, Paul Cary, Senior Warden

Let's Play Ball!
Masons4Mitts.org

Brethren,.It has been a wonderful and generous season for helping children.

The Masons4Mitts program has now ended this year’s fundraising efforts. Because of your generosity there will be 951 children receiving their very first baseball glove next spring. Yes, 951 mitts for 951 children. That's 301 more children than last year, that's 543 more than 2 seasons ago, and that's 921 more children than just three seasons ago.

Your generosity has led the way all year long. Sacramento & Foothill Masons set the pace leading all
contenders until the end. The final numbers had the San Jose and San Francisco teams passing us in the last 4 hours of the fundraiser. This was expected as those areas have more Masons and hold very large fundraising events all summer long.

Sacramento & Foothill Masons have exceeded every
desire or expectation for their generosity. Three seasons ago the Sacramento team contributed less that 30 mitts....... this season nearly a thousand mitts..... WOW!

I thank each of you for your support for this worthy
program. We're going to help a lot of kids because of you.

Thank you for your love for children and thank you for being so very generous.

Fraternally, Jim Watt, PM

Brethren, Thank you to the parents of Bethel #292 for
preparing a great Bar B Q chicken dinner. And thanks to the girls for serving. And a special congratulations to the girls for their outstanding work at Grand Bethel this year. Good job girls.

Our October Stated Meeting dinner is being prepared
by Bob and Jan Clawson on behalf of the Ben Ali Shrine Patrol. See “What’s for Dinner?” Below.

Looking forward to November, we will again have our
annual food and turkey drive.

Brethren and Ladies if you know of a family member
friend or neighbor that needs some assistance in putting together a Holiday feast, please contact me and we will put something together for them. My number is (916) 997-2119 or email me at jsco@winfirst.com.

Fraternally, John Scofield, P.M., Jr. Warden

Hall Board

No new projects in the works at the moment for the hall board, however, there are some changes that will occur at the first of the year. Worshipful Jim Poindexter will be stepping down as building manager. Worshipful Poindexter has done an outstanding job keeping our lodge in great shape, there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that we members just take for granted. He will be missed. The hall board is actively looking for a new building manager. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be interested, please let either myself or any one of your hall board members
know. Thank you.

Fraternally, Tom Tompkins, P.M., President
