June 2013 Trestleboard

6/1/2013

From the East

Brethren if you missed last months Stated Meeting Dinner and program you missed a great time. May was Youth Orders Month. Ashley Van Allen from our Jobs Daughters, Bethel #292 gave a great presentation of our Fraternal connections. Also the Girls from Camellia Assembly #108 reminded us of our Masonic Heritage connection. Thank you so much to these fine groups for honoring us at our Monthly Meeting.

Welcome to Brother George Fogy and Brother Jeffrey Anders to the Craft. They were initiated Entered Apprentices on May 13th.

Be sure to come out on June 29th for the 3rd Annual Lodge Family Picnic. We will have BBQ chicken to eat. And with all the wonderful side dishes that you will be providing it should be a fun day. Remember it is being held at the Ben Ali Shrine Center.

Congratulations to Brother Christopher Globis on receiving his 25 Year pin this month at the Stated Meeting. Please help us with your food donations for the food closet across the street. Your donations are desperately needed. Anything you can bring in helps out.

Masons 4 Mitts is in full swing. Let every one of us contribute toward this fine program. Every donation helps out. Looking forward to seeing you in the Lodge. Watch this Trestleboard for events and news about you and your Lodge!

Fraternally, John Scofield, Master

From the West

Thank you for your continuing support of our food bank. With summer and the end of the school year fast approaching the need for these families is greater. Little things add up quick and get used up quick.

It has been great seeing so many of you at lodge.

Fraternally, Tom Angello, Senior Warden

From the South

We had a wonderful turn out for the May Stated Meeting and Dinner. A big thanks to Wor. Tom Tompkins and his crew for having a delicious spread. It was great to see both the Job’s Daughters Bethel 292 and the Rainbow Girls Camellia Assembly 108 give a wonderful program. Lets give them both a big thanks. Remember the girls love to have sideliners, so please come out and show your support. Thank you all for your continued support.

As June begins so does summer vacations for most. May you all have safe travels. We have a wonderful dinner planned for this month. The Stated Meeting dinner will be on Wednesday, June 12th at 6:30 p.m. Dick Lewis and the lodge will be preparing the dinner. Please see “What’s for Dinner?” below for details.

Masons - Baseball - Kids - The Perfect Combination

Do you remember your first baseball glove?

Once again, Northern California lodges are teaming up with the Giants Community Fund to provide baseball mitts for more than 20,000 at-risk youth in the Junior Giants program. With 45% of Junior Giants participants not owning a baseball glove, California Masons can make a difference!

Teams of lodges in six areas are competing to give the
most mitts. Support your team at Masons4Mitts.org!

Hall Board

The Hall Board Directors met on May 1, 2013 for their regularly scheduled Business Meeting. The Capital Improvement Committee Chairman, Gary Roberts presented a very challenging agenda for Capital Improvements. They involved improving parking lot lighting, replacement of patio cover, improving the sound attenuation in the dining area, removing ceiling “popcorn” and repainting the interior of the Lodge in softer colors and paving the upper south side parking lot including a side walk. The estimated cost of these proposals would be between 70 and 80 thousand dollars. This is doable by using funds from the Building Fund investments held by the Lodge with the approval of the Lodge Membership. The Board will be making a decision soon.

The Board also authorized the Building Maintenance Manager to seek bids to repaint the external part of the building and present the low bid to the Board by e-mail for approval. Also the Board passed two “Standing Resolutions” involving Casual and Long Term renters use of the facility. These resolutions will be appropriately made known to renters and leasers.

It is not too early to think about prospective Lodge Members to stand for election to the Hall Board in November. There will three seats to fill and there is a need for Members interested and qualified to carry on the duties of all of the offices and also for the need of a Building Maintenance Manager and Rental/Lease Manager. This is a Business valued at nearly two million dollars and it is crucial to have qualified volunteers on the Board. I would like to point out a quote I recently read that “Volunteers are unpaid, not because they are worthless, but because they are PRICELESS”. That is certainly applies to our Board members.
