Installation of 2014 Officers Harding San Juan Lodge No. 579 cordially invites you, your family and friends to attend Sunday, December 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. NOTICETHE ANNUAL ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR HARDING SAN JUAN LODGE WILL BE HELD AT THE NOVEMBER STATED MEETING All member Master Masons in good standing, whose dues are paid, or have been remitted for 2013 are entitled to vote. Hall BoardIt is now approaching the fall months and a good time to do some landscaping. We will have several work parties before the end of the year to plant some new shrubbery, pull weeds, trim trees, distribute some ground cover to hold down weeds and maintain moisture for existing plants.
At the November Stated Meeting, the membership will be voting to fill three Director positions on the Board. The Board will hold their Annual Business Meeting on Wednesday November 6, 2013. At the Annual Meeting the Board will review the accomplishments of the year, decide on any further Capital projects that can be completed before the end of the year, determine if there are any excess funds to transfer to the Lodge for Investment and I will be appointing a nominating committee to present a panel of officers for election at the first meeting in January. The Board President elected to manage the corporation in 2014 will be looking for a new Building Maintenance Manager. The Manager does not have to be a Board Member, just someone who has the willingness, time and ability to manage the Custodial and Yard Maintenance contract, repair or see that needed repairs are made, purchase and keep in stock janitorial items and a few other items that are listed in Job Description for the Manager. Anyone interested can contact Jim Poindexter for further details. RSVP Call Dave Hahn Hall BoardGreetings from the Hall Board. We have not made any progress on Capital Improvement Projects so far this year. However, we do have three painting bids to consider at our next meeting in July. Of course this is a maintenance project and is important in keeping the building in good repair. This brings to mind that there has been considerable damage in the building that has gone unreported. We know things will happen and no one will be required to pay for damage, but it sure helps to stay on top of needed repair when the damage is reported when it happens. The latest damage that requires quit a bit of work to replace is the damage that was done to the control panel on the vent over the stove in the kitchen. To find out how the damage occurred sometimes helps to prevent it from happening again. Your help in this matter is badly needed.
The members of the Hall Board want to wish everyone a Happy and safe Summer Vacation. Fraternally, Don Bagley, P.M., President Masonic Family BBQ Potluck Saturday, June 29th 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Ben Ali Shrine Center 3262 Marysville Blvd. Sacramento, CA. 95815 We need a head count! Please RSVP to Paul Cary Sign up to bring your potluck contribution. We need side dishes, hors d’oeurvres, chips & dip, salads, desserts and non-alcoholic beverages. Lodge provides all BBQ’d meats! Hall BoardThe Hall Board Directors met on May 1, 2013 for their regularly scheduled Business Meeting. The Capital Improvement Committee Chairman, Gary Roberts presented a very challenging agenda for Capital Improvements. They involved improving parking lot lighting, replacement of patio cover, improving the sound attenuation in the dining area, removing ceiling “popcorn” and repainting the interior of the Lodge in softer colors and paving the upper south side parking lot including a side walk. The estimated cost of these proposals would be between 70 and 80 thousand dollars. This is doable by using funds from the Building Fund investments held by the Lodge with the approval of the Lodge Membership. The Board will be making a decision soon.
The Board also authorized the Building Maintenance Manager to seek bids to repaint the external part of the building and present the low bid to the Board by e-mail for approval. Also the Board passed two “Standing Resolutions” involving Casual and Long Term renters use of the facility. These resolutions will be appropriately made known to renters and leasers. It is not too early to think about prospective Lodge Members to stand for election to the Hall Board in November. There will three seats to fill and there is a need for Members interested and qualified to carry on the duties of all of the offices and also for the need of a Building Maintenance Manager and Rental/Lease Manager. This is a Business valued at nearly two million dollars and it is crucial to have qualified volunteers on the Board. I would like to point out a quote I recently read that “Volunteers are unpaid, not because they are worthless, but because they are PRICELESS”. That is certainly applies to our Board members. Fraternally, Don Bagley, P.M., President Hall BoardThe next business meeting of the Hall Board Directors will be on Wednesday May 6, 2013. In addition to voting on some changes in some rental policies, the Directors will entertain Capital Improvement recommendations from the Capital Improvement Committee Chairman. The time has come for the painting of the outside of the building. The Board will be asked to approve asking for bids. We will be looking for volunteers with power washers to prepare the outside of the building for painting. Contact the Building Maintenance Manager, Jim Poindexter, if you can offer your help. We are still looking for a Church Tenant and finally I want to invite any member of the Lodge to attend our Board Meetings.
Fraternally, Don Bagley, P.M., President Hall BoardGreetings from the Hall Board. We have not had a meeting since the last Trestleboard Article but have kept busy keeping the building in shape and working in the yard in particular. We have a duty to our neighbors and the general public to keep our place looking good. In that endeavor we are in the process of removing some old shrubs and replacing them with more attractive shrubbery. Also we are getting rid of the ivy that has been growing on the front projection in preparation for repainting the building. Also we still have a lot of wood chips to be placed in the shrub beds to keep the weeds down.
On a different subject, we have placed a conference table and chairs in the Library room at the west end of the hallway to better serve as a place for small meetings including the Hall Board meetings. In the old conference room at the top of the stairs is still the Masonic Library. Anyone interested in Masonic History is welcome to use the Library and borrow books if you desire. Finally we are still looking for a church tenant to replace the church tenant that moved out on December 31, 2012. Fraternally, Don Bagley, P.M., President |
